Backgroud to the development of Orthopaedic Hand Acupuncture and Magnetic Therapy

Orthopaedic Hand Acupuncture and Magnetic Therapy is based on Koryo Hand Therapy (KHT), which was discovered in Korea during the 1970's by Dr. Tae-Woo Yoo

It follows the theory that the hands are a micro-cosmos of the body and the functions of the human body are manipulated by stimulating corresponding points on the hands

According to the theory of KHT, there are 14 micro-meridians and 345 acupuncture points on our hands which regulate the internal organs and the physiological function of the entire human body. On this course we will focus on the main reflex zones.

Apparently one night in
1971, Dr. Yoo who was an experienced traditional acupuncturist had awakened from his sleep because of severe occipital pain that would not go away, he was drawn to an area on the back of his middle finger. He then proceeded to apply pressure to the area with a ballpoint pen and found that it was sensitive, so he inserted a needle in the same spot, and was astonished at the speed and degree of pain relief he recieved.

He continued experimentation which led him to understand that not only did the tip of the finger represent the head of a human body, but that the entire body could be corresponded to the rest of the hand.

From this was formed the basis for Koryo theory and treatment which uses corresponding points, or Correspondence Therapy, to treat pain symptoms

The joints of the finger act as divisions that represent proportional joints of the body. Each hand represents the whole body, so every part of the body is represented twice

It is believed that increased dopamine, adrenalin and endorphine secretion as well as increased blood count and imunological activity as well as various neurological stimulus are the main reasons for the pain relieving and healing effects of Acupuncture. Magnetism, Electrostimulation and Moxabustion also stimulate simillar responses

Orthopaedic Hand Acupuncture is a system of treatment focused on the musculoskelital conditions without any drugs. These conditions are found commonly in most complementary therapists practices.

The hand is a microcosm which reflects the greater macrocosm of the the human body

This therapy is ease to learn, its safe, effective and often results are produced dramatically fast.

Although hand acupuncture a complete system of healing, with a wide range of applications, on this course we are focusing on the application of the therapy for Orthopaedic and Muscuskelital conditions

.
By inserting needles or applying magnets over these reflex zones this can help in strengthening and supporting the immune system thus encouraging healing as well as relieving pain
